Finding a Place for Honeymooning

After the wedding, spend a few days at home to study each other. Understand the likes and dislikes, the hobbies and pastimes, the aesthetic inclinations, the culinary tastes, etc of each other. Then you can agree upon a truly soul-satisfying location for honeymooning that will be perfectly pleasing for both of you. Before fixing the destination, consider the weather in the region, the tourism season there, any special event there that might add to your enjoyment or be a hindrance to it and the route to your destination, including any problem on the way.

Finalising details

When the destination is decided upon you can sit together and finalise the details of your trip. The following things may be considered:

  • The budget for the trip and the cost of the facilities and activities you want
  • The period of stay considering the limitations imposed by more important things in life, like your permitted leave period, a seriously ill close relative, etc
  • The things you will need to carry, including travel documents like passport and visa, credit cards, clothing, medicines, etc

Dress and Jewels to wear

The dress code, especially in flight, is to dress defensively and not decoratively. You can dress comfortably in layers, which can be removed and added easily according to the temperature and other climatic conditions. They will also be useful not to cause delay for yourself and other passengers at the several checkpoints. The clothes should be a little loose with ample pockets to carry things.

Heavy metal things like large buckles, loose change, heavy necklaces, large keys, etc may trigger off metal detector alarms. Better place all your jewellery in your carry-on and put it back on when your destination is reached.

Minimise costly jewellery as these might be stolen in places where you may have to leave them without much security or may attract some violent attacks on your person with the purpose of robbery. Your diamond wedding ring may be kept safely at home and replaced with a duplicate (say, a cubic-zirconia) lookalike. The whole point is to be tension-free and enjoy peace of mind during the trip.

Carry your costly digital cameras, cell phones, laptops and other delicate electronic gadgets in your carry-on luggage, without keeping them in the checked luggage. Minimise liquids including gels and aerosols, as quantity over 100 ml may be confiscated.

Do not use your business phone during the honeymoon trip, at least from the time you reach your destination to the time you leave. This way, you will enjoy your honeymoon much better than mixing up business concerns and cares with your most enjoyable time in life.

Things to do on your Honeymoon

  • The couple, especially the groom, should make sure that everything has been organised before starting on the honeymoon trip. Reserving hotel room, arranging the transport, topping up the bank accounts, updating the insurance and medical documents, purchasing necessary clothes and stationery and checking the route maps are just a few of the things to be taken care of in advance.
  • The bride and groom should be interested in each other and no third person should be allowed to enter that special space between them. A bride talking of the handsome face and politeness of the room boy and a groom ogling at the beauty at the reception desk are things that could start a verbal duel that could end in disaster.
  • Turn off the television and all that come between you two enjoying each other. Go out and spoil each other, just talking and listening and enjoying the company of each other.
  • Be hygienic and clean. Take regular showers, cut and clean your nails, cleanse your hands after going to the lavatory/latrine, comb your hair and take care to be neat and clean always.
  • Let the man be in control, at least before other people, even if the bride is a high level police officer in her place. To feel in control and to play the role of the protector are what makes the groom feel elated. Allowing him enjoy this traditional gender role need not make the bride feel inferior in any way.
  • Discussing your past boyfriends and girlfriends will not to any good to your relationship. Such discussions will suck the passion and romance out of your honeymoon mood. Keep those discussions and remembrances for more convenient times at home.
  • Brides should remember that playing a mother figure role during the honeymoon period will not do them good. Criticizing his dining habits, discovering dirt behind his ears and cleaning it, or talking about the dirty smell of his socks, especially when there are other people in the hearing distance will spoil the honeymoon. Grooms also should remember that making fun or slight of his bride in front of others, for the sake of making them amused, will ruin their honeymoon trip.
